Filming – 4

As discussed previously, in an editing session we noticed we still needed around 15 seconds extra footage in order to reach the 2 minutes required.

We figured the best way to fill this time would be to add more clips for the party sequence, and vary the shots and camera angles. We asked about 10 people to come and be extras for this, most of which weren’t involved with the original party sequence as though the audience would notice having all of the same people throughout the house, and wanted to vary it a bit.

We filmed in other places too where we didn’t have the chance to last time. Most of the filming from the first filming session took place in the living room of the location. This time we were able to film in the dining room, stairs and landing, which gave us the chance to vary camera movements and angles.

There were minor problems this time, with the main issue being lighting. The last  time we planned it so it would be dark outside, however that was a good few weeks ago, and now it’s lighter in the evenings whereas before it was dark when we wanted to film. So because it wasn’t naturally dark, we had to try and block the outside light as best we could, and this was quite difficult. It also meant the quality of filming wasn’t as clear as the other footage. So now the quality isn’t consistent throughout the piece, however in editing we are going to do whatever we can to try and resolve this issue.

Music Change

Originally, we were going to use the song ‘Titanium’ by David Guetta, however after attempting to cut it to fit what we have so far is proving to be very difficult. We were also starting to question whether it was suitable, and whether or not it fitted as well as we originally anticipated. For these reasons we have been listening to other pieces of music similar to ‘Titanium’ which could be more suitable. After listening to many, many songs we had the idea to listen to a few from the band ‘Chase and Status’ as their songs are drum and bass, and all have the climax in the song we wanted.

After discussing it all together, we decided the song ‘Time’ by Chase and Status ft Delilah would be appropriate, and after playing about with it on Final Cut, we found it was a lot more fitting to our product with little editing which meant it would save time, and would look better in the end.

Filming – 3

Today we filmed the bedroom scene at the party, with Emily and our male character, Ryan.

We hope this is all of the filming finished, which means we are closer to finishing editing. We think we may need some more footage from the party sequence, but we’re hoping when we get back into the editing suite we will be able to make it up to the 2 minute mark without having to film more.

All of the footage we’ve got so far is fairly good quality. Today we were able to have a tripod as well, so a lot of the shots we got were really still and better quality than the others.

We also carried on the idea of in cooperating the titles into the filming, and wrote ‘Created By Charlotte, Emma and Heather’ on the mirror which, in the reflection, you see Emily pulling ryan into bed.

We wanted to film Emily pulling Ryan into the room, her unzipping his jacket,  her pulling him onto the bed and so on, because we didn’t want to make it look like it was a sexual attack, or a male taking advantage of a drunken girl. We wanted it to be as clear as possible that it was not an attack, it was both of their ideas and they both wanted what was going to happen. This was important to us because we are already dealing with a sensitive issue, and we didn’t want to take too much emotion on board into the small amount of time our opening sequence was. We were worried we wouldn’t be able to carefully deal with too much emotion sensitively in the 2 minutes, and we didn’t want to cause too much controversy among our target audience.

Filming – 2

Today we did some more filming so we had enough material to begin editing.

We filmed the bathroom sequence where our main character discovers she is pregnant. We chose to do this before we edited more because we wanted to be able to edit together the bathroom sequence and the party sequence together in one session so we could create the ‘flashback’ effect we intended to have.

Although filming went well, we were slightly rushed for time as we had time issues due to other commitments our actors had. However, we got all of the footage we needed, and we are now at the stage where we are ready to start editing properly.

We asked Emily, our main character, to dress really casually, to not wear make up and to have her hair fairly messy. We wanted to make it very clear to the audience that this was a different time to the party sequence. We needed to ensure the viewers realised the ‘flashbacks’ of the party, isn’t happening at the same time as the pregnancy test sequence. After showing our target audience the story board, they seemed to think this was the case. This has helped us because we now know to make sure there is a clear difference.

The bathroom sequence was filmed in broad day light, and the party sequence late at night, so hopefully the obvious difference in times of day will also help the viewer recognise the flashback effect.

We all had ideas of what camera angles we wanted to use for this sequence, and not all of them were shot due to the time issues. We also didn’t fully agree on some of the shots taken, but we filmed anyway and in editing will hopefully be able to create what we all imagined.

Filming – 1

Today we started filming the party sequence. We had some trouble with getting a group of people together, so in order to try and make our product look as authentic as possible, we had to make clever use of lighting, camera angles and when we get round to editing we will have to cut the clips into shorter clips and try to create a successful sequence.

With the lighting, we used a small torch in and made the room we filmed in as dark as possible by shutting all curtains, turning off lights and closing doors. We then used the torch to shine and focus the filming on certain parts of the room and the people. We thought this would create more of an effect because it will hoepfully make it look more like a party.

We plan to film again soon: the bathroom sequence and the bedroom sequence.
